Building the Side Frames (02 of 03)

Even when using a dog free house plan you still must follow these steps:

1. Secure the cripple studs to the bottom plate with wood screws. The side cripple studs should be evenly against the middle support stud. The center cripple stud should be positioned evenly between the side cripple studs.

2. Now the header needs to be built. Put two pieces of 3.5" x 1.5" (3.80cm x 8.90cm) timbers together and place them under the top plate. If the 2 pieces of timber do not sit evenly with the edge of the top plate, then extra plywood will be needed to place between the 2 header pieces.
Secure the two pieces of header wood with wood screws.

Tip: The header will position the upper part of the window framework.

3. Secure the header to the top plate, with the thin sides on top .
Fasten with a minimum of four wood screws, since the header is quite heavy.
