Dog First Aid

To avoid that little accidents become great dramas, basic dog first aid lets you make sure that in case a serious accident actually occurs, lets be prepared to be able to remedy the best way possible and the fastest way possible, hence, it's essential to be able to know how to act in case of an emergency, having basic knowledge of the first aid techniques that in a certain point could be necessary to put into practice. Besides, we must keep in mind that certain situations that for us are perfectly normal may present some danger for the animal, so we must avoid that under such circumstances the animal is beyond our control. That's why it's extremely important that at all times and circumstances we take the animal attached to a leash (a comfortable one as mentioned before), and that in the indoors, we must avoid that our pet enters situations that may jeopardize its health, or construct any kind of danger.

Improvising a dog muzzle: Using a chord, cloth string, of approximately a meter in length, or putting together several shoe laces, using a tie, a panty or a sock (if long) and follow these steps:

First. Place the string below the snout (leaving two extremities of equal lengths at both sides) and tie the string on top of it near the stop. Second. Done with the first knot, place the two extremities once again under the snout and place a knot again, strongly, below it. Third. Once the second knot's been done, pull gently towards the back of the head both extremities and put a knot in the head just under the ears, making a bond (to get rid of it quickly if necessary) making sure the animal can breathe regularly.

How to move an animal that's had an accident: When you've made sure that there aren't any injuries at the level of the neck, vertebrate column or spinal cord, improvise a stretcher for the animal proceeding as follows: Use a board (a hard cover book will do) to immobilize the neck. In case of extreme agitation, immobilize front and rear legs, with a blanket or any other object at hand. Put the animal in a big, soft yet resistant place, either a blanket, rug, strong towel, coat, etc, and with the help of a second person, proceed to moving the animal. Knowing how to evaluate an emergency
