Dog Eye Problem Symptoms
If your dog shows any of the following symptoms or problems with his eyes, you must take him to the veterinarian. A lot of eye problems can be easily resolved if dealt with right away, however, not taking care of the problem can turn into big problems and in some cases even cause the dog to lose his eyesight.
- Reddening of the eyelids.
- Very teary eyes.
- Sticky webs on the eyes.
- Swollen eyelids, eyes that are semiclosed.
- Constant blinking, more than usual.
- Obvious problems such as if the dog scratches at his eyes or rubs his
face on the floor etc. - If the dog runs from the light and hides in dark places to avoid the sun or light.
- When the dog's eyes move very quickly and the dog is not able to control them.
- Cloudy looking corneas.
- White pupils or dull looking.
Questions and answers and dog eye health care
Q: My poodle is constantly tripping over things. Her pupils have a pearl color to them and I fear she has cataracts. Is there a way she can get an operation to get rid of this problem?
A: If the whole eye has not been affected the veterinarian will be able to remove the cataract and this will allow the dog to see again, however your dog will not be able to see as well as she did before; just remember that dogs don't need to use their eyes as much as humans do (they don't read etc), and they generally learn to get along perfectly fine even when they can't see as well as before.
