Dog Diarrhea Treatment and Dog Intestinal Problems

Sometimes, something as small as a change in a dog's diet can bring about diarrhea. Feeding your dog the wrong kind of snacks or food can also cause diarrhea. If you notice that the problem persists for over 24 hours, consult your veterinarian. Prolonged diarrhea can lead to dehydration. The way to tell if your dog is dehydrated is by gently pulling on his skin. A dog's dehydrated skin loses its elasticity and will not snap back right away when pulled gently. Internal parasites can also cause diarrhea.A dog that is stressed may also suffer from this problem and this is sometimes seen in work dogs or in dogs that are left alone for extended amounts of time. The best way to avoid this from happening is by getting the dog dewormed and not letting it rummage through the trash for food. When a dog has diarrhea it's very important to make sure the dog does not get dehydrated. Just like children, dogs lose a lot of water from their bodies when they have diarrhea, so it's very important that you give fresh clean water to the dog. Don't exaggerate in the amount of water though; give the dog small amounts frequently (giving the dog a lot of water at a time will only cause him to throw up again). And keep an eye that the dog does not drink any water from dirty places like puddles, toilets etc.
