Using a crate to train a puppy is ideal because a dog will turn it into his "safe place" or home. The best places to put a crate are in visible places like the kitchen. Dogs don't normally mess up their "homes", which is why crate training is ideal for inside the house. Following are some tips on how to crate train your dog:

Whenever you are busy leave the puppy inside his crate. Make sure that it has a bed (a blanket or pillow), a bowl of fresh water, and a chewable

toy.

Keep a close eye on your puppy in case he needs to defecate. This will usually occur after the puppy has eaten or has been sleeping.

Never leave your dog inside his crate for over three hours at a time during the day.

Keep a newspaper close by so that the puppy recognizes it as his place to urinate and defecate.
