Dog Collapse

Dog Collapse

Dog collapse: The most important thing for you to do if your dog collapses is stay calm. Then make sure that your dog is comfortable covering it with a blanket if necessary to help it stay warm (don't overheat it). Keep your dog in a quiet and dark area and keep some fresh water nearby for your dog to drink once it is able. It is a good sign when you dog starts drinking. There are many reasons that can cause a dog to collapse so be sure and tell the veterinarian everything that occurred right before and right after the collapse.

Dog bleeding: Bleeding can normally be stopped by applying direct pressure to the wound. While treating your dog be careful that it does not bite you. Simply cover the wound with a clean bandage and apply pressure, this should slow the blood loss. Should the wound continue to b

leed change the bandage and continue applying pressure. If the bleeding is from an injury on one of your dog's paws or its tail and the bleeding is heavy you can make a tourniquet by wrapping a piece of cloth around the wound or as close possible (pick a spot between the your dog's heart and the wound) and tying it off. Then put a pen or a stick through the cloth band and twist it. A tourniquet should never be left on for more than fifteen minutes at a time. Seek immediate medical.

Dog shock: If your dog suffers a traumatic experience it can go into "shock".
A dog that is in a state of shock will have a fast but weak pulse and will be breathing in a shallow and irregular way. Their skin will be clammy, pale and cold to the touch and at the same time they will be sweating. Wait until the veterinarian has checked your dog before giving it anything to eat or drink. A dog that is in shock should never be given anything alcoholic to drink. If your dog is cold you can cover it with a light blanket to help keep its body temperature stable. Shock can be a symptom of a life-threatening problem so if your dog goes into shock be sure and seek immediate medical attention.
