Dog Apple Nips Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup of all purpose flour
1 cup of oats
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 and ½ teaspoons of ground cinnamon
½ cup of canola oil
½ cup of honey
2 eggs
1 cup of apples, cored and diced
Preparation
- Preheat the oven at 350 degrees F. Oil 2 baking sheets with vegetable oil.
- In a bowl mix the flour, baking powder, oats, and cinnamon together well, then set on the side. In a separate large bowl mix the oil and honey together until you obtain a homogenized mixture. Then add the eggs into the mixture one at a time stirring constantly so they mix in well. Finally add the dry flour mixture to the egg mixture and stir until you obtain a smooth dough. Fold the apples into the dough.
- Use a tablespoon to scoop up some dough and drop it onto the baking sheets giving each one 1 and ½ inches of space in between each other. Put them in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until they become golden brown.
- Once done allow them to cool completely before serving them out.
Put the leftovers in an airtight container and keep them for up to 1 week, or wrap them in freezer wrap and store them in the freezer for up to 2 months.
Serves around 25 to 30 cookies.
Keeping Your Dog's Ears Clean
If you have a dog with long ears make sure to check them often and to keep them clean. Unfortunately dogs with floppy ears are more susceptible to getting ear infections because of bacteria growth. There is nothing that bacteria love more than to have moist, dark, warm places to grow in. Make sure to keep check of your pooch's ears as it has lead dogs to become deaf in some cases.
Dog Treatments
There are different ways of treating flea and tick control treatments. Some veterinarians recommend using a monthly or seasonal topical treatment in order to control them. These work by applying a few drops on the dog's skin in between the shoulder blades. The good thing about these types of treatments is that they are very easy to apply and there isn't much science to them. Just apply and your dog is ready to go. The problem comes in if the dog is allergic to them, which has happened to some dogs, and these topical treatments are difficult to remove. If your dog happens to have a reaction to a topical treatment, make sure to keep the children away from the dog for about 2 full days to give the treatment time to settle in. Obviously it's best to ask your veterinarian about the best brands for your specific dog before applying one on him.
