Butter: Butter is produced by churning cream. Most of the butter sold in stores that is commercial is made out of cow's milk, but it can also be made from other animals such as goats, camels or buffalo. Butter has a tendency to burn so it cannot be heated at high temperatures. It also contains a lot of fat, saturated fatty acids, and cholesterol, however it can be used in dog recipes in moderation.

Cheddar cheese: Cheddar cheese is firm, pressed, uncooked cheese, which is ripened for a somewhat long time under very humid and cool temperatures and conditions. Make sure to not use cheddar cheese that is crumbly or which outer part is darker than the inner part. Any other semi firm cheese can be used as a substitute.

Cottage cheese: Cottage cheese is made from pasteurized cow's milk and is not fermented. Cottage cheese must be used quickly as it does not have a long shelf life. It has a high content of water and it is low in calories and fat. Sometimes it has a slightly acidity taste to it. There are different size curds in cottage cheese, which are small curd, medium curd and large curd. Fresh cheese such as mascarpone, cream cheese, ricotta etc can be used as a substitute.

Eggs: Eggs are very high in protein and are very nutritious. The color of the egg has not

hing to do with the nutritional value of an egg though.

Milk: For the recipes offered in this site make sure to use fresh cow's milk. Goat's milk can be used as a substitute.

Dry nonfat milk: Dry nonfat milk is a powder that has had all of its fat and moisture taken out. It is also commonly known as nonfat dried skim milk. Fresh skim milk can be used as a substitute.

Parmesan cheese: Parmesan cheese is a hard cheese that has a granular texture to it. It is really good to add flavor to many types of foods and can be used grated. Romano cheese can be used as a substitute for Parmesan cheese, as well as any other hard cheese that can be grated.

Romano cheese: Romano cheese is a firm and hard cheese that has been pressed. To use it in dog food, grate it.

Yogurt: Yogurt is a fermented lactic bacterium and is made when it is added to milk. Yogurt is an excellent source of calcium. The amount of fat, calories and carbohydrates it contains varies from brand to brand.
