Obviously, the amount of food a dog needs varies on the size of the dog, the sex, it's condition of life, and the climate. An active outside dog, eats more than a dog that lives a sedentary life, just the same way that a small ten kilo dog will need more food in proportion with his weight than a bigger dog. The longitude of hair determines the need for food too; it's well known that dogs with shorter hair are more active and energetic than those with longer hair.

It's good to remember that dogs learn very quickly how to behave in order to get the food they want, an example of this is through begging for food while the family is eating or by continually barking.
If you have a small puppy, it's best to serve him about three to four small meals a day, in the morning, at midday, in the afternoon, and in the evening. This applies only to dogs that are 4 months to 6 months. After this, the dog should be fed once or twice a day.
From the calorie needs of a dog that is growing, about 28% will go to the proteins, 32% to the sugars, and 40% to the fats. It's very important to avoid overfeeding your dog because you can create an overweight problem in your dog, which can be detrimental to the dog's health.
