Correct and incorrect attitudes when adopting a dog

YESNO
  • Decide if you want a puppy, an adolescent, an adult, or an old dog beforehand
  • Are you busy at all times? Don't take a dog that needs daily brushing. Getting older? Don't choose a dog that requires frequent excercise. Do you have small children? Choose only a dog that is used to dealing with them.
  • Take your time. A rushed election will harm you as much as your dog.
  • Find out everything you can about the past of the dog and its character. Take a small walk with the animal and observe its behavior.
  • Take him to the vet to get a regular checkup as soon as possible. Make sure the dog has all the necessary vaccinations.
  • Don't cose a dog from the pound or shelter because it will be cheaper. You will need to dedicate large amounts of time and patience for its education.
  • Don't rush it. Think it before you compromise yourself.
  • Don't expect to find the perfect dog on your first visit to a shelter or pound.
  • Don't choose a dog merely based on how it looks. The behavior it displays is just as important as the physical appearence.
  • Don't overwhelm your dog with cuddles no matter how adorable it is. Keep in mind that it may have suffered a lot in the past and it is probable that the dog feels hounded if you do so.
