 | Citronella barking collarIt always makes me sad to see dogs with anti-barking shock collars. Don't people know about the citronella barking collar? Shock collars attempt to reduce barking with pain. In addition to being less effective, pain may increase anxiety and aggression and make some behavior problems worse. And, although the pain caused by ultra-sonic collars is not as severe as with electrical shock, behavior experts observe only one-fourth the success rate as with a citronella barking collar. The spray works with four of the dog's five senses--he hears it, sees it, feels it and smells it. Citronella is non-offensive to humans, yet "unusual" enough to distract your dog from whatever he's barking at. It is ideal for controlling general nuisance barking, both indoors and outdoors. It is not recommended for anxiety-related barking unless specifically directed by a behavior professional. The citronella barking collar can be used with any breed of dog that weighs 6 lbs. or more and is at least 6 months old. If you have a smaller dog or younger, be sure to check first with your veterinarian before using this or any correctional device. The citronella barking collar works by delivering a harmless burst of citronella spray that interrupts your dog's barking. The device is triggered when your dog begins incessantly barking and so it learns that this behavior is not desirable. It is important to note that no correctional collars, not even a citronella barking collar, should be left on a dog for more than eight hours straight. In the end no matter how efficient your correctional collar works the job of teaching and training your dog is your responsibility. And just stopping him from barking when he has his spray collar on will not teach him that there are other more rewarding things which he could be doing with his time. Anti barking collar |
