Care of Dog Burns and First AidDogs have very sensitive skin so it's very important to act right away to avoid any problems if your dog has suffered any burns. Dog food burns are also common if not careful. Water or oil burns in a dog: - Run cold water over the burn. Do not put any type of cream on the dog.
- Cover the burn with a wet cloth or you can put a bag of ice and take the dog to the veterinary clinic right away.
Corrosive material burns: - Put a muzzle on the dog. If you do not have one you can make one by using a handkerchief or a cloth around the dog's mouth. This is done to avoid the dog from licking the affected area.
- Very gently wash the burn with water, and then take the dog to the veterinarian.
When a dog gets electrocuted. Serious electrocutions: - Make sure to cut the electricity before attempting to move the dog from the object or place he is getting electrocuted in. Move the dog away from this area by using a wooden broom (never use one that has a metal handle).
- Call the veterinarian immediately. Keep the dog warm and check to see if he is breathing and if his heart is beating. Talk to the dog and encourage him.
Small electrocutions: When this happens to a dog there are certain ways the dog starts acting. For example, if the dog has been chewing on an electric cable, he will probably have a little difficulty breathing for a few moments. Make sure to examine the dog's mouth to see if he hasn't burned himself, if he has, put water over it. Insect bites on a dog: Believe it or not insect bites can actually cause a dog a lot of discomfort and can cause allergic reactions to the dog such as hives. In some cases the dog may have difficulty breathing. Make sure to call the veterinarian right away. Wasp stings on a dog: Make sure to wash the affected zone with a diluted acidic substance, such as vinegar with water. Bee stings on a dog: Try to remove the stinger with some tweezers (the stinger looks like a short dark hair). Put bicarbonate sodium on the bite. Dog hemorrhages: If a hemorrhage is not stopped right away it can cause the dog to go into shock and die. Internal hemorrhages: - Start out by calming the dog down and covering him with a blanket.
- Avoid moving the dog as much as possible and get help immediately.
