Canine Entropion and Ectropion

Canine Entropion and Ectropion

When the treatment is not effective

and your dog constantly closes his eyes and his eyelids are impregnated with pus, you ought to be careful that the eyelids don't invert, called entropion. Generally in these cases, the animal suffers like hell. In its initial stage it is commonly and mistakenly confused wit a conjunctivitis, and will be uselessly treated with salves and drops which will cause great pain to the patient. A simple operation is enough to remedy it. The inflammation disappears and the eye returns to its normal color.
Ectropion: The exact opposite of Entropion is Ectropion, which is also a normal affliction. Some breeds like the Basset Hound and the Boxer tend to have their eyelids open towards the exterior. This health problem makes the dog look melancholic and provokes a chronic inflammation of conjunctivitis. In this case, the operation does not always, sad to say, have the desired success. So, if there is no other remedy than to bear with the pain, I suggest you apply drops and ask the breeder to take the dog with ectropion out of the litter.
