Diet for Sick Dog
Animal nutrition specialists have elaborated a prepared meal for sick dogs, which can only be administered through a veterinarian prescription:
- an anti-allergic diet for dogs that can't tolerate normal food.
- a special diet for dogs with chronic heart disease.
- a special diet for gastro-intestinal and liver problems.
- a special diet for kidney stones and other conditions.
- a stimulating diet for recovering and lactating dogs, as well as puppys before and after vaccination
- a weight reducing diet for excessively heavy dogs.
A dogs table rules: Correctly feeding your dog costs money; depending on the size and breed it may cost between $0.50 to $2.50 a day . Regardless if it's prepared food or a home cooked meal the following rules apply to all dogs:
- An adult dog receives one meal a day and if possible, the same time every day.
- Best time of the day to feed it is in midday, that way he will have time to do it's necessities and not have to go out at night.
- Food should not be too hot nor too cold, it's temperature should be warm.
- If it doesn't finish it's ration, you give it less for the next time. Besides a healthy dog can even eat extra then what it really needs.
- Leftovers should not stay in it's bowl. It's bowl should always remain empty and clean.
- The water bowl should always be full of fresh water. The dog should be able to drink whenever it pleases, and it's only drink should be water.
- You should not feed the dog soups because it doesn't fill them up and is not properly taken advantage of by the body.
- Dogs need to rest after they eat. A walk before the food will open it's appetite. If a large dog starts playing right after it's eaten it may get an indigestion, which can lead to gastritis( an emergency).
