Bulldog Dog Breed Information
The Bulldog is considered the national dog of England where it was bred originally as a fighting dog (hence the name). The Bulldog has in more recent times become well known and loved as a brave guard dog and companion. Though powerfully built the Bulldog is conscious of its incredible strength and only uses it when absolutely necessary. It is playful and patient with children and loves getting involved in their games. It is best to keep this breed on a leash at all times when out as they are predisposed to fighting with other dogs.
Exercise: Due to the shape of its muzzle the Bulldog can't breath perfectly and often has problems in this regard. You should never over-exercise it and even as a puppy great care must be taken to not cause it unnecessary albeit unintentional suffering through overexertion. Hot muggy days are especially hard on this breed. Regular brisk walks are usually enough to keep this dog in good shape.
Specialized care: Bulldogs don't normally need much more than a regular grooming session and a good bath every once in a while. This dog can tend to be lazy and unless special care is taken it is easy for them to become overweight.
Weight:
- Male:25 kilos
- Female:22.5 kilos
Appropriate for: A brave, faithful, intelligent and careful companion this breed loves playing with children of all ages and is instinctively watchful of anything or anyone under its care. Does not do well with other animals or dogs and unless well trained can be a menace to other pets it may encounter.
