Dog Breed Specific Behavior Problems
Some dog breeds exhibit certain genetically imprinted behaviors. The problems arise when this behavior is counter productive. Getting a Dalmatian to change his spots is never an easy task, but with the training techniques you have already learnt and with patience and a lot of repetition. It is possible to replace the old imprinted behavior with the newer desirable behavior.
Set for Success: Humans instinctively see the bad and negative in a situation. The problem with this is that what is reinforced is most often remembered. This is even truer with your pets. What you need to do is make a difference by reinforcing what is good in the situation. Set your dog up to succeed by controlling his environment and providing motivating consequences for good behavior while providing no rewards for unwanted behavior. When a dog has choices he will learn more solidly. Figure out why your dog is acting the way he is and then come up with solutions to help him. Teaching him self-control, obedience and concentration will help him to learn responsibility and how to learn.Whatever you do don't just become another pet owner that tried and gave up at the first sign of trouble. Your dog loves you and needs you to teach him to reciprocate his love in acceptable ways.
