Body Language for Dogs

Dog Body Language

Dogs use a combination of dog body positions, facial expressions, vocalizations and odor marks to communicate their feelings to their owners and other dogs. Which are the signs dogs use to communicate between them or with their owners? Ears have a main role in communication, and not only serve to hear sounds. The position of the tail, and the back skin, are also indicative of the dog's mood. For example, when a dog receives his owner, normally moves his tail, while his ears are in their normal body position. If he faces, cautiously, another dog his tail and his ears are down. A dog walks around another to detect his odors.

Normally, they avoid an eye to eye contact, as this gesture is associated with threat and aggression. Dogs rarely bite without previously showing their intention, they previously growl and show their teeth. The dominant dog will have his tail and ears raised, bristling the back part hairs to emphasize his aggressive position. In this challenge, the subordinate dog will turn his face and walk away, sometimes pursued by the other for some time. Following some clearly defined gestures; dogs avoid a damaging meeting, without a real fight. We can also watch some style conducts in some other situations, like inviting the other dog to play. The promoter lowers his front legs like a reverence, with stiff back legs. The dog then can arise, suddenly, jumping around, moving his tail, and in some cases barking to stimulate himself.
