Birthday Dog Treat Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups of whole-wheat flour
3 cups of unbleached all purpose flour
3 teaspoons of baking powder
1 cup of vegetable shortening
4 eggs
½ cup of corn oil
2 jars of liver flavored baby food
1 cup of crisp cooked bacon, crumbled
Preparation
- Place the oven rack in the center of the oven and pre heat the oven to 400 degrees F. Place 1 slightly greased baking pan on the side.
- Use a large bowl and a wire whisk to mix the whole-wheat flour, all purpose flour and baking powder together.
- Use a pastry blender to cut in the shortening until the mixture acquires a fine crumbly consistency.
- In a separate medium size bowl beat the eggs with an electric mixer on medium speed until they are foamy. Then beat in the oil and baby food until it has acquired a smooth consistency.
- Then use your hand to blend the mixtures together well until it becomes a soft dough and starts to pull away from the bowl it is in. Lightly flour a flat surface and turn the dough onto it, knead it a few times. Break off pieces of the dough and use your hands to form ball shapes about the size of walnuts. Then roll each of the balls into the crumbled bacon and put them on the previously prepared baking pans leaving about an inch of space between each one.
- Bake for around 25 to 30 minutes or until the cookies have acquired a light golden brown color and look dry. Then remove them from the oven and place the tray over a rack and allow the balls to cool completely. Turn the oven off.
- Once the balls have cooled, put them back inside the warm oven in one baking tray and allow them to sit in there undisturbed without opening the oven door for 10 to 15 hours straight.
