Beef Sticks for Dogs Recipe
Ingredients
1 and ½ cups of whole-wheat flour
¼ cup of dry nonfat milk
2 tablespoons of vegetable shortening
1 egg
1/3 cup of beef drippings, or as much as needed
Preparation
- Place the oven rack in the center of the oven and pre heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place 1 slightly greased baking pan on the side.
- Use a large bowl and a wire whisk to mix the whole-wheat flour and the dry milk together.
- With a pastry blender cut in the shortening until the mixture becomes into a fine meal.
- In a separate smaller size bowl beat the egg and then add in the beef drippings.
- Next, blend both the dry and wet preparation together with a spoon or use your hand until it becomes a soft dough and starts to pull away from the bowl it is in. If it is too dry add a teensy bit more drippings to it at a time.
- Lightly flour a flat surface and turn the dough onto it. Knead the dough several times. Then break off pieces of the dough and roll them in between your hands and form a thick log with it about the size of a cigar.
- Put the sticks over the prepared baking pan, put them in the oven and bake them for around 20 to 25 minutes or until they obtain a light brown color. Once done, take them out of the oven and allow them to cool to normal temperature. Turn the oven off at this point.
- Once the sticks have cooled, put them back inside the warm oven in one baking tray and allow them to sit in there undisturbed without opening the oven door for 10 to 15 hours straight.
