Avoiding a dog fight

How to Avoid a dog fight

When the dogs are in "T" position, it's still possible to avoid the fight. To do so, you shouldn't separate them during the encounter because there's the danger of the fight starting immediately. You should proceed by separating them one from another; the situation and the dogs obedience determine the kind of intervention of it's owner.

A dog of superior category, places it's head on the back of the inferior in the hierarchy.

Tied up dogs frequently cause more fights than those that are used to individual encounters with other dogs. Because if the leash, which it considers a kind of prolongation of it's owners arm, it feels much stronger. Anyway, this doesn't matter very much when in a park, somewhere it actually meets other dogs, and the usage of the leash is mandatory for all. An encounter between two dogs ends many times in both dogs lifting their legs. It's part of a ritual and reassures their self-conscious. The owner shouldn't impede this when they are tied up.

Observations about contact between dogs

  • The more of it's kind that the dog knows, the more naturally and freely it'll act.
  • Dogs don't bite at first; first they threaten and "show off".
  • Their breeds, like the Fox Terrier and Bull Terrier that retract against other dogs. They don't want to cause problems.
  • There's nothing better than relationship between dogs; half an hour of playing, uses as much movement and action as two hours of walking.

Rules of canine encounters
In a dog world, encounters have very clear and precise rules:

  • A dog who has had a nose contact has to move it's tail next time, which mean "hi friend" or growl, which means "leave me alone". Recognition is product of it's extraordinary smell memory. It's owner cannot influence whether it likes the other dog or not. You'll not be able to find out the reasons either.
  • Large or very self-conscious dogs may ignore others of its kind and dismiss them as if they don't exist.
  • The action of smelling it's behind is the next step after nasal contact. This is completely natural because the anal glands, which facilitate the information to other dogs is under it's tail. Ethnologists call this "anal facing" and a dog that offers it to another by lifting it's tell is a self-conscious dog.
  • A female dog only occasionally let's a male control it's anal face.

The hierarchal order of the dogs, determine which will do the "passport control". Effectively, the social hierarchy has a very important function in the canine population and is maintained only with continual coexistence and also with occasional encounters.

  • Dogs in the same category start moving in a circle.
  • If neither backs down they go on to a "T" position
  • Frequently a dog fight looks more violent than what it really is.
