Avoid your dog from getting bored: Teenage dogs tend to becomes bored if they are not getting enough exercise and play plenty of games that stimulate their intelligence and abilities. Young dogs need to be able to let off their energy as much as possible. If you as the owner of a young dog do not offer your dog enough exercise and better alternatives, your dog will make sure to find a distraction and challenges to overcome. Unfortunately the type of obstacles young dogs find have to do with destroying the furniture, digging in the garden (or flower beds) etc. It's very important a dog not only get plenty of physical exercise but mental as well. Help your dog maintain his mind as challenged as possible by playing with him and playing games such as hide and seek. There are even special dog puzzles you can use for your dog. If your dog is a "Home alone" dog, he will probably try to distract himself and overcome his boredom, by naturally destroying something of yours. Dogs are not the most adequate pet to have if you are out of the house most of the day. In these cases, it's best to have someone who can accompany the dog while you are not there. For dogs that are destructive any time you are not home, your best bet is to leave the dog in a place they cannot destroy or break anything with several chewing toys and bones. Make sure when you get home from work, (or from studying etc), to always take the dog out so he can get some exercise and burn off all that energy.
