Adult Dog Feeding

Adult Dog Feeding

Since the end of the adult dog growth, the feeding regime of the adult must proceed until new necessities appear (like getting old which happens when the dog is about 8 years old). Since this ration, we will reduce or increase the amount of ingredients with the goal of adapting the nutritious contribution to the animal's activity
The Veteran Dog: The nourishment hygiene and a good veterinarian follow up will increase the life span of dogs. In 1998, according to the studies of Facco/Sofres, 55% of dogs were 12 years or older (while in 1996 it was a 50.9%) and an 11.6% topped up 16 years of age (in 1996 it was only about 9,7%). Beginning at 7 or 8 years, the animal becomes more sedentary, it spends less energy in its displacement and needs more attention. Its nutritious necessities are less than those of an adult dog; therefore it must be adapted to the current situation.

It is generally considered that the energetic necessities of maintenance of an old dog correspond to a 90% of the adult dog's. From then on, the adequate energetic necessities are determined and the contents adapted in proteins, lipids and fibers, always trying to favor traffic that with time becomes more sluggish. With the goal of alleviating the kidneys, it is recommended not to add a phosphorous complement to the ration, since amount of this mineral that the foods contain are enough. On the other hand, we can add calcium and vitamin complements.
