What is the right diet for my dog.
Inexperienced dog owners tend to over concern themselves with the dog's nutrition. Ideal diet depends basically on the animal's behavior, its growth and development. You need to make sure that the puppy not only eats an adequate amount of food daily, but that the food it's eating is balanced enough: include proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, fats and minerals in the correct proportion. In the period of adaptation to its new home, the puppy should eat exactly as much and the same food that it had in the shelter. However, after the first week you may decide to change the dog's diet. It is preferable to introduce the new diet slowly. A puppy should eat 4 times a day at first and 3 times a day after the first 12 weeks of life. Since puppies grow and develop so quickly, their energetic necessities double those of an adult dog. At 6 months of age, the regular diet consists of two meals a day, although some specific puppies may need to redistribute this diet into more frequent meals. When that moment comes, their energetic needs will diminish and you should start lowering the amount of food per day. At the age of 9 months, a puppy is fully capable of continuing a nutritional diet that resembles one of a fully grown dog.
