"Straitjacket" Dog Commands

Don't worry, as this command has nothing to do with your dog. This applies to you. It is important that you be careful and alert of the way you behave when you make the changeover of off leash effort with your dog. This type of command has to do with you teaching your dog commands by straight jacketing yourself…in other words, practice commands by attaching the leash on him but folding your own arms or putting them in your pockets, then command him to "sit", "down", etc. Try to not touch the leash during these moments to put into effect these commands. Don't use any motions; only use your tone of voice. In the end, that is all he is going to hear if he ever runs off, therefore signals or motions do no good. Whether you are planning on giving your dog obedience trials or not, it is still a good idea to follow through with the advanced training methods. Remember that the more you train you pooch, the better your relationship will be and the better for both of you.
