A Golden Retriever's Place to Sleep and Rest. Sofa, Bed, Blanket.
Your Golden needs his own place to rest in your (his too) house. This place needs to be situated somewhere away from where everybody transits by or from the home activities, but not so far that he feels isolated. As time goes by, you will learn to notice your Retriever's choices concerning his rest places. Please him and place a mat or blanket in that place, but if you constantly trip on it, move it elsewhere.
Always take your puppy to a designated place for a short time: the best moment is when you get back home after a tiring walk, when he wants to rest after a hearty meal or when he's tired of playing. Do this along with a firm yet loving order, for example "go to the blanket". This place needs to be free of drafts and easy to clean, because Retriever's often return from their walks all wet and muddy. Of course, your Retriever will look for other places to rest, be it in the garden or in a sandbox or on the fresh tiles in your hallway – although most Golden Retrievers don't like bright tiles.
