His First Encounter with his New Family

His First Encounter with his New Family

If all the family members and neighbors jump onto the new dog, be sure that he will snuggle under the couch. Give him some time to gradually get to know his new environment and the humans and animals that are in it. As soon as you arrive home, you should let him know where it is he must go when nature calls. Sit him there and wait till it happens. When he does finishes, praise him enthusiastically. After that, take him to the first bedroom he discovers and from there let him get around the house by himself. Any game at this stage might disturb him and an encounter with a cat might shake him up. Ion first place, he's probably hungry by now, especially if you picked him up without

any breakfast. It'll be a positive experience for him if you feed him. Pet him gently and talk to him calmly, so that he notices that he is not alone.

How do you carry a puppy in your arms? Since Golden Retrievers have a heavy bone structure, you have to, with one hand, hold him by the chest - in between his front and hind legs – and with the other hand support his weight holding him rear side. Don't lift him by his front legs because his joints are still too weak. It isn't convenient either to carry him like a sack of flour on your shoulders because if he makes an unexpected move, you wouldn't be able to catch him. You always have to be ready for any unforeseen reactions. Likewise, do not carry him on his back in your arms as if he starts to kick, you won't be able to control him.
