Golden Retriever Vaccine Schedule

Dog Vaccine Schedule

There are different opinions as to when these vaccines should be administered. The most usual is the following plan:

  • Vaccine against parvovirus – approx 6 weeks old
  • Against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvovirus (2nd) and parainfluenza virus – approx 8 weeks old
  • A reinforcement against all of the above and first vaccine against rabies – approx 12 weeks old
  • A reinforcement against parvovirus – approx 16 weeks old

The vaccine has to be a yearly reinforcement. It's also important to regularly

apply vaccines when traveling abroad and/or attending shows. Additionally, vaccines against cage cough and boreliosis are recommended.

De-worming: Since your breeder is responsible, he submitted all his puppies to an exhaustive process of de-worming. Before the reinforcement – around 12 weeks old (see above) – the dog needs to be de-wormed again. In his first year, your puppy needs to be de-wormed 3 to 4 times; older animals only need to go through the process once a year, against all kinds of parasites; but hunting and service dogs every 3 months. If the Golden lives with a family that has small children, then the de-worming has to be done very carefully. If your Golden is in contact with sheep or likes to eat their excrement, it's also convenient to regularly treat them against taenia. Especially the fox taenia can be dangerous, even for the human being. Your dog can get infected if he comes in contact with fox excrement.
