Training a Golden Retriever for Show

Training a Golden Retriever for Show

Practice your Golden Retriever's correct presentation, both standing and in movement. It is a mortal sin to pass your hand under his belly and raise it, as it is to stretch a dog's tail outwards and upwards. Have an experienced Golden Retriever owner show you what a correct posture during the presentation is like. Continually practice this and correct it. When your Golden is standing, he has to be looking straight ahead; he has reached it if besides he can wag his tail. Also have a look at good Golden Retriever posture photos and keep them in your mind. Four disposition, use and very it find exposition leash, which doesn't call the attention and doesn't disturb your dog's general aspect. Always grab the leash with your hand! Once in the exposition, your dog has to let himself be touched all over; in the nails, the testicles are touched and the judge always evaluates the denture.

Therefore, the Golden also has to let a stranger open his mouth. When you present him in movement, the Golden has to advance on the left side of the presenter, trotting widely and dynamically, without pulling on the leash. When presenting him, the leash has to be loose and the dog must be able to walk at a certain distance from his presenter. Practice the triangle paying attention to the corner marks and advancing directly to them. A good presentation can only be obtained if the dog and his owner have practiced a lot.

The big day:The anti-rabies shot has to be at least 30 days old and not more than one year old. Without a valid vaccine certificate he can not enter the exposition area. Dogs are organized according to their catalogue number (which also indicates in which order they leave). Take your dog out of the area so that he can relax before they call on his category.

All the dogs of that category have to line up according to their numbers. Now have your dog stand up with correct posture; the judge will now go from dog to dog to obtain his first, sometimes definite, impression. Usually, the dogs have to go around in one or two circles. The judge notices outstanding details in the way they walk or how they behave amongst themselves. After that, they are qualified on an individual basis. If your dog reaches the final stage with an excellent qualification, then he will be called on stage again. This is the decisive moment! In a calm yet concentrated mood, present your dog once more and observe the judge while he examines your dog.
