Golden Retriever Puppy First Nights

A Golden Retriever Puppy's First Nights

A Golden Retriever wants to sleep close to his humans. So, why not in the bedroom, in front of your bed? Later on, he will look for another place around the house, or you can show him to a convenient place. However, the first nights it's better if he stays in your room; that way, you can hear when he gets uptight or has to heed to a call of nature. In this case, you have to put on your slippers and take him out. For this reason, it's not convenient that he sleeps in you children's bedroom the first few nights, because kids are generally heavy sleepers and don't wake up immediately to the first sign of unrest. Besides,

they wouldn't wake up fast enough to take the dog outside. If your dog can't sleep in your bedroom, there is only one alternative: sleep on the sofa or on a mattress near the dog.

You are not allowed to lock him up in the kitchen or isolate him in a place where he would "do nothing". This would make him lose his confidence in humans. If he can be bear you, or better so, on the blanket that smells like his mom and brothers, he will feel protected. The effort you make these first few nights will pay off because puppies that is so closely taken care of by human beings, don't, or hardly, cry the first nights.
