Golden Retriever History

Golden Retriever History

A total of six Retriever breeds were identified thru out history. The best known are the Golden, the Labrador and the Flat Coated retriever. Less known are the Curly Coated, the Chesapeake Bay and the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retriever. They all belong to the group of collecting dogs.

The five other Varieties of Retriever identified in history: These breeds do not only have a different aspect, but also different characteristics; a Retriever and a Retriever are not the same.

Dog Clothing for Labrador Retriever: The Labrador is a short-haired dog the size of a Golden Retriever. His hard fur with thick, waterproof underlining is black, yellow or chocolate colored. The Labrador is strong, stable, temperamental and naturally loving dog, who wants to work and be busy.

Flat Coated Retriever: The Flat was originally one of the most popular Retrievers in England. The Flat Coated Retrievers are very lively, extremely intelligent and obedient dogs, but precisely due to these characteristics they are hard to tame. The dog's black or liver-colored fur is soft, somewhat long and thick. He's strong, but not rude, and his aspect is elegant.

Curly Coated Retriever: The Curly differentiates himself from the other Retriever breeds in his way of being because he shows abilities for vigilance and for protection. He is sure of himself, loving and is very capable and enthusiastic worker. His typical fur with the unmistakable small curls is usually black and liver-colored. The curly is usually bigger than the other Retriever breeds.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever: The Chessie is an intelligent and brave dog with a lot of enthusiasm for work, with aptitudes for vigilance and protection. He is a well-proportioned, strong dog with amber eyes. His reddish brown to wheat yellow fur has a greasy overhair and a thick, slightly curly underhair in the shoulders, in the neck and in the back.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling retriever: The Toller is the smallest Retriever breed, more widely known only in the last years. His main characteristic is that he not only traps water animals, but also attracts them with fast movements. His waterproof fur is medium length and soft; the colors vary from red to orange with white spots on the chest, the paws and the tip of the tail. He is intelligent, persevering and playful.
