Diarrhea or vomits don't have to be a reason to worry, but if they continue for a long time, then they could be signs of a more serious disease. Golden Retrievers suffer from and inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), which can also extend to the liver, stomach and duodenum (the part of the small intestine between the stomach and the jejunum). When they eat inadequate food or drink rotten puddle water their vomit comes out with strong streaks of blood. When there is vomiting and diarrhea you also have to consider the possibility of poisoning. Pink vomit, closely-spaced vomits (every half an hour to an hour), liquid diarrhea (pink or black) are all signs of alarm. Go at once to the veterinarian!

Thyroids: More and more often are Golden Retrievers going to the vet with thyroid hypofunction. These dogs get tired easier and sooner than others; they have an ugly coating and greasy skin and tend to be overweight. These signs usually appear in their 1st or 2nd year and a hereditary disposition in the Golden Retriever is considered. A good diagnosis can only be obtained with a blood analysis at a lab. If these Golden Retrievers are administered a Thyroxin hormone, they will soon be more active and resistant.

Epilepsy: Sad to say, the Golden Retriever, like many other breeds, can suffer from epilepsy. The disease presents itself in different ways. There are dogs that have a genetic predisposition, but there might be other causes that generate this disease. This disease can be a real headache both for the dog and for the owner, depending, of course, on how bad the attack is. In lighter case, the attacks can be controlled by means of medication.
