Search and Rescue operations
This section will explain the different types of basic data about the possible and special way of getting into areas that are in confined spaces etc that may need to be done in collapses, leaving out the work that the canines would be doing, since in each situation the unit Leader will have to confront and deal with the multiple situations that may arise. Following are the types of ropes that are used which are static and dynamic. Static ropes are primarily used to hang or hoist static weight. They have less elasticity than the dynamic ropes, which is why they are very useful for long descents, although they are not very convenient when it comes to absorbing dynamic energy. These types of ropes should not be used to climb whether it is in an underground area or an exterior area.
Dynamic ropes are the types that are used more, and they have certain elasticity to them. When a collapse occurs, these ropes can absorb the dynamic energy reducing the force of the fall. These ropes are also used to fasten. Having knowledge of the types of knots that can be done is a very important aspect in knowing how to work on a rescue team. There are different types of knots used for anchoring, binding, uniting ropes, blocking, securing and fastening etc. All these types of knots must be done in the following way:
- They must be easy to do.
- They must not undo when pulling on them.
- They must be easy to undo once they have been used.
- The rope must not diminish resistance excessively.
