f you find your SAR dog in contact with a live electric object, do not touch it until the contact has been broken or the current has quit running through the dog. If the accident takes place in the house then the quickest and safest way to stop the electricity is by switching off the main breaker to the house. If you are outside or have no way of switching off the electricity then you can use a wooden pole or tree branch to attempt to unplug the electrified device or to pull your dog away from it. Never use anything made of metal or any other

conductive material as this will only result in you being shocked as well. Do not touch the SAR dog until you are completely sure that there is no more current running through it. When you can touch it, you should check first to see if the SAR dog is breathing and has a stable pulse. If necessary begin AR and/or CPR. If you must move the SAR dog use the same precautions as if dealing with a fracture as the dog could have internal injuries. Seek immediate medical attention.

Dog collapse: If your SAR dog should collapse the first thing that you need to do is stay calm. The first and most important thing that you can do for your SAR dog is to make sure that it is comfortable. Cover it with a blanket if necessary to help it stay warm (but be careful not to overheat it). Try to place it in a quiet and dark area. If you can pull the curtains shut or turn off most of the lights. Have some fresh water close at hand and once your SAR dog is able to drink let them. It is a good sign when the dog starts drinking. Call your veterinarian right away. The reasons that a dog might collapse are many and varied.
