Search & Rescue Specialization

The first people to use dogs for rescue missions were the monks of the Hospice of the Great Bernard.

The first search and rescue performed by canines was done after an explosion that happened in a factory in Dotticon about three decades ago.

In order to achieve a search and rescue mission, it must be done by two; the dog and a person or guide, both of whom are specialized in some type of rescue mission whether it be water search, disaster search, urban search, wilderness search etc.

At the same time these teams are integrated in a number of special types of units such as the Police force, Fire fighters etc.

There are as we mentioned previously many different types of rescues that a dog can assist in such as disaster search, urban search, water search, avalanche search etc. however, it is suggested to limit a dog to only one type of specific activity in order to be able to achieve the best results and train the dog more effectively.
