Spokane Dog Boarding
One of the most common complaints that we get from people bringing their dogs to the Spokane dog boarding facility where I work is about their dogs barking. Almost nothing is more exasperating than listening to a dog bark incessantly for hours. Dogs communicate with each other and us through barking but if your dog is barking too much it is a symptom of a much bigger problem. First the dog's mental, emotional and physical needs must be met and then peace and quiet can again be found. Nonstop barking is one of the most common complaints of neighbors and dog owners alike. As dogs are pack animals by nature with strong bonds to family members it is unnatural for them to be alone for long periods of time. So they bark as a way of releasing their frustration and angst. Barking is self-reinforcing and therefore must be dealt with without delay. If any of your dog's basic needs is missing you will have an unhappy dog. All dogs have a basic need for a safe place to sleep, a healthy diet, predictable schedule, lots of vigorous exercise, interaction with other dogs and people as well as toys and other play things which provide for a stimulating environment. You must teach your dog from the time he is a puppy to expect temporary separation from his human family members. He must learn to be content even if he can't be with you every minute of the day. It is important that he knows you will return predictably and take care of him and provide for all of his needs. Dogs who spend too much time with their owners can also become overly dependant on the physical presence of their owner. So that if their master leaves just for a short period of time they become overly anxious and express this by barking excessively. If your dog is having problems barking unnecessarily, have a look at how much or how little time you are with your dog and then make any needed changes in order to help your dog feel confident, safe and loved.
