Dog Ticks

Returning home after a summer walk, you casually discover in your dog's hair some forms of variable size, from a pin's head to a pea. Their aspect is repugnant; there are ticks, than in the tropic are a major threat. It's necessary to extirpate them because they torture the dog and absorb his blood. The best way of doing it is with your fingers or some special clamps for ticks. In hot countries, the "dog's brown tick" has appeared, these ticks can also live in houses.

Eczema: If your dog has itches, his hair falls down, his skin is full of furuncles, and is covered by superficial wounds, though no parasites are detected, then it's an eczema, a painful and slow matter. Eczemas with rapid development and great intensity are easier to treat than chronic (discretes). Therapy is difficult even for the vet. It must be done internally and externally. You can help giving him variable food with great content of vitamins.

Skin's prurito: The dog feels itches, scrapes, licks and bites himself. However there are no parasites, otitis or perceptible alteration of the skin. Parasites can't really be seen? Then it's a case of skin's prurito without a proven cause, puritus sine materia, as doctors say. It's a very disgusting situation for patients, owners and vets. In most cases itching is eliminated through hormonal pills (corticoids), but usually the animal will start scraping again once the daily administration is over. It's always an hypersensitivity reaction (allergy). What has change in the dog's environment? New food, anti parasite spray, new collar, different products for floors cleansing; causes for allergy maybe too many. You can find the cause by yourself; the vet cannot give you too much advice. Surely your dog's life is not under peril, but is a bothering situation

Loss of hair: The lack of hair in some dogs (nude Mexican dogs) is scientifically known as alopecia, and is normal in these animals. However, in the rest of dogs, bald breeds are pathological. It may be cause by a strong parasite infestation, eczemas or thallium intoxication (a metal very similar to lead, used occasionally against gnawers; it's very toxic and is mortal even in minimum doses). Symmetrical lost of hair from the back or sides- not rare in female dogs-indicates a hormonal alteration. Treatment is difficult. In the worst case, remedy will be castration.
