Dogs can catch a cold, the same as persons. The first sign is a cough. But there are different types of cough, that you can distinguish if hearing carefully.

Dog bronchitis: Short coughing that sounds like stertors, and does not impress the animal, are not to worry. These clean respiratory channels from persistent mucosities that, in general, are not expelled but swallowed. Everything indicates a slight bronchitis. If the dog has good mood, appetite, and his temperature is not over 39°C, you can treat him without going to the vet. Keep him warm. He likes honey that dissolves phlegm. You can try also with inhalations. Pour hot water in a container; place over it the dog's head covered with a cloth.

Important: In treatment with medicines, use only preparations containing, exclusively, products to dissolve phlegm (expectorants). Avoid antibiotics or sulfamidas, as well as antitusigenos that will only hide the real condition of the animal. In case you notice the syndrome gets worst, rush to the vet, because there is danger of distemper.
