A thorn in the pads
The dog doesn't place a foot firmly or moans when doing it. Possibly he has a thorn, a glass fragment or something similar, stuck in his pads. Before checking carefully, examine if paralyzation is really due to a leg's injury.

A couple of lotion drops over the bandage will help, because that odor is repulsive for dogs. The best protection against biting is a plastic neck you can buy at specialized shops.
