| Washington DC Dog Grooming Our Washington DC Dog Grooming salon gave us some information on fleas that we thought was very interesting. We were informed that fleas can lay up to twenty five eggs a day. So you can imagine how many reproduce every single day on a dog or cat coat. Fleas are into comfortable temperatures such as mid 60's to mid 80's degrees Fahrenheit, which funny enough is normally the temperatures a person's house would be at, making our homes these nasty fellows's favorite place. Flea eggs need to incubate for a few days and then they hatch. At this stage they are larvae and they seek to burrow into dark safe looking places, such as our furniture, carpets etc, as well as in leaves outside. These live off of dried blood and organic substances for weeks at a time. After this they go into what is known as the cocoon stage and in this stage they go into a process that is called pupate. The cocoon is there to protect them from the weather and insecticides and believe it or not studies have been made that showed that they can stay in this stage for up to a year or longer. They hatch when they know food is close by. Our Washington DC Dog Grooming service told us that fleas can be easily seen on a dog's coat by splitting the dogs hair coat and looking fro tiny black specks, or to use a flea comb. If and when a dog has fleas he will need to get deflead and the owner will need to put the dog on a preventative program in order to avoid them from coming back again. |
