Syracuse Dog Groomer

We took our dog Ben to our Syracuse Dog Groomer yesterday and our groomer taught us a few things about dog grooming that were very helpful. He told us that when grooming a dog the ideal time to clip his coat is after the dog has been brushed. He mentioned that this also helps the clipper blades to last longer. He said that it is very difficult to bathe a dog that has mats on his coat. The best, he said is to first brush out as many mats as you can by hand and then go back over the dog with the clippers. In the case of dogs with longer coats the tools needed are a metal comb, a double bristled brush, clippers and a lot of patience as it might take awhile to get the job done. Our Syracuse Dog Groomer told us the first thing to do was to comb the areas that are not matted first and then start combing out the mats. The most common places matting occurs are behind the dog's tail, inside the thighs, on the back of the hind legs and under the tail. The way to comb out a mat is by starting at the edge of the mat, the teeth of the comb should be used to lift the mat away from the skin, grab onto the dog's skin to avoid it from hurting him. Once the mat has been lifted from the dog's skin you can use the clippers to nip underneath the mat. He told us the ideal types of clippers to do this job are the curved ones as they are safer. Our Syracuse Dog Groomer highlighted on the importance of lifting the mat away from the dog's skin before clipping to avoid cutting the dog's skin.
