If you prefer to clip the dog's coat on a table though make sure you place a pad underneath the dog's paws to provide stability for the dog and to place a blanket or pad on the ground as well as this will save the clippers from breaking in case they fall (this happens often). When using clippers it is important the dog first gets used to the sound they emit. Start out by first turning it on but don't place it on the dog's coat just yet, wait and hold it near the dog's head and see how he or she deals with it. If you see the dog accepts them and remains calm, place the clipper against his skin so that he gets used to the vibrating sensation. If the dog is able to handle the vibrating sensation on his skin he will most likely be able to get clipped. However there are dogs that simply don't like the sound and vibrating sensation in which case it will be necessary to sedate them. In our case we had told our Rochester New York Dog Groomer that we wanted our dog to get completely shaved. He took us through the steps on how to do this and said to start at the back of the dog's ears and to lay the clipper blades flat on the dog's body.
