Philadelphia Dog Grooming
Our Philadelphia Dog Grooming program is always looking to provide information to pet owners to help them provide better care to their pets. A lot of people that own pets don't really know everything that it involves to care for them appropriately. Obviously there are things that must and need to be left to the veterinarian such as medical issues, but there are a lot of grooming things that can be learned on the part of pet owners, which will help to keep their dogs in good health. One thing that came up the other day was the topic of ticks. Ticks are not only problematic but painful as well so it's important to know how to identify them and how to deal with them. Since it is impossible for pets to tell us when something is bothering us, Our Philadelphia Dog Grooming school told us that it is essential we check our dogs regularly to avoid any unnecessary pain and discomfort. Ticks are not considered insects but rather arachnids like scorpions, mites and spiders and there are two kinds, which are the soft and hard. The body of a soft tick swells up a lot after it has fed on the dog's blood. Soft ticks feed at night and attach onto the host, feed on them and then drop off. Hard ticks on the other hand are more commonly seen in dogs and their bodies are hard like a shell meaning they don't swell up when they feed. Hard ticks suck the blood of the dog and extract and concentrate of solid material from the blood and puts liquid plasma into the dog which can cause disease so keep an eye on your dog to avoid them.
