| New York Dog Grooming Our New York Dog Grooming school told us about a special topic that is currently being addressed to dog groomers all around the country which is how to handle aged, disabled or ill pets. Obviously this requires for much more individual care and consideration. It is very important for dog groomers to first learn about the individual medical information of the pet before attempting to handle them. Grooming for aged or disabled pets needs to be done very gently and slowly. In some grooming places there are days in which these pets can be taken in which specifically dedicate their services to the aged, ill or disabled as this provides less distraction to the groomers and there is less noise in the grooming salon. Something common in dog grooming is de matting a dog's coat however in the case of older dogs this cannot be done the same way. Many times this is handled by removing the dog's coat in order to avoid pain to the dog, obviously the groomer will first ask the pet owner before doing this. If a dog owner agrees on this he or she will then need to be careful to keep the pet warm, especially if they live in a colder place or are in the colder seasons. These types of dogs also require a different type of blow drying and this is done in a warm place. They should never be cage dried and in the case of dogs that have heart problems they cannot be required to stand on their hind legs. Our New York Dog Grooming school has also been teaching us about the importance of talking softly and gently to reduce any fear the aged, ill or disabled pet might be feeling at the moment of grooming. |
