Dog Grooming

Learn about Dog Grooming techniques to better care for your pet and ensure its health. Keeping your dogs ears is a very important part of Dog Grooming and must be done correctly to make it as easy as possible for the dog. To do this start out by lifting the earflap so you can see the inside of the dog's ear. With your thumb and index finger grab onto the hair and quickly remove it. Pull in the direction of the hair growth and only pull small amounts of hair at a time. If there is hair in the dog's ear canal make sure to only remove it when there are not signs of ear infection. Only remove hair half an inch down into the ear, not further in though. If the dog has hair further inside his ears, leave it to your dog groomer or veterinarian to do the job. If you notice the dog's ear is moist or oily you can use medicated ear powder, which will help to absorb the moisture and dry the wax and hairs that will help to give better traction. You can also use tweezers to grab onto the dog's hair but you need to make sure to not pinch at the dog's skin as the ears are very sensitive and there is no way your dog is going to let you touch his ears again if this happens. Never probe the dog's ear further down than half an inch as it can be extremely dangerous and can cause ear drum damage. If you see the dog's ears have something lodged in them, it's best to leave this job up to a professional. Dog grooming is the responsibility of all pet owners and is important because it keeps a dog healthy and happy.
