| Detroit Dog GroomingI called our Detroit Dog Grooming service the other day to tell them that I was going to take our dog Trev in to see them. I also mentioned that I thought there was a possibility our dog had fleas to which my groomer explained how to check. He told me that detecting fleas is a fairly simple thing to do. He said that this could be done by parting the hair coat and looking for evidence of infestation. He told me to use a flea comb, which are available at any grooming supply store and to comb the dog's coat on a bright clean surface and told me that the fleas will look like teensy black specks on the surface and comb. He said that this was one way to detect fleas but that it still isn't one hundred percent sure this way. He said the way to know exactly is by wetting the flea dirt in water which might turn red from the dried blood. He asked if our dog was scratching as his coat very persistently and said that it would be necessary to have it taken care of as heavy scratching could irritate Trey's skin which would then be more complicated to deal with. Our Detroit Dog Grooming service told us that flea infestations could come up all throughout the year, but that spring is commonly the most intense period. Cold temperatures turning warm along with humidity makes ideal conditions for flea uprisings. He also told us that after grooming and defleaing the dog that a dog can still pick up fleas again and the only way to prevent them is by following a preventative program and get rid of the fleas living within the environment. |
