Boston Dog Grooming

The Boston Dog Grooming school we go to has taught us so many things about caring for pets that it is almost impossible not to share what has been learned. Something all dogs need done on them is nail clipping. There are tips on learning how to do this but the key is to learn just where to cut and to know when it is time to clip. Our Boston Dog Grooming school taught us that if a dog's nails can be heard when they walk on a hard surface then it probably time to schedule a nail clipping appointment. When clipping a dog's nails it's best to cut a small amount more often than a large amount at one time. Most dogs though only see their professional groomers about once a month or less sometimes in which case it is necessary for pet owners to now how to clip the excess amount of nail. Dogs have dewclaws above the inside of their feet or on the back of their feet, which need to be trimmed, as they are usually long. Many people ignore a dog's dewclaws since these don't actually touch the ground when the dog walks but they can get caught in grass or weeds when a dog is running around in a field etc, so it is still important to get them clipped. A dog's nail also has what is known as the quick, which can usually be seen except in the case of dogs with dark nails. In dogs with dark nails it is a little trickier as cutting the quick can cause the dog's nail to bleed. Talk to a professional Boston Dog Grooming service, groomer or veterinarian to show you how to take care of your dog's nails in between scheduled grooming sessions.
