My Allentown Pennsylvania Dog Groomer teacher was talking about clipping and grooming a dog's coat the other day and we were looking into getting to nasty mats on a dog's coat and how to deal with them. Dealing with nasty mats as anyone that has a dog with a lot of hair knows, is not the easiest job. Now, first of all the amount of work a dog's coat requires highly depends on what the dog's owner wants the dog's coat to look like in the end. One thing he mentioned was that when clipping a dog's coat it can wear down on the clipper blades a lot (if the dog has a lot of mats that is) since this has to be done before bathing the dog. One very important point on this last topic, never attempt to wet the dog's coat when it still has mats on it as it will just cause the mats to get worse and believe me, dealing with wet mats is not fun at all. If you are intending on using electric clippers on your dog, don't do this around water. It might sound foolish, but there are actually people that do and it is a definite no, no.
