Dog eating dog poo HELP

Postby Lori » Fri Mar 24, 2006 8:28 pm

My newest shihtzu (now 1 yr) continues to eat my other (3 yrs) dog's poo. I have tried the Deter and I pick up the poo every day. They are alone during the day in the back yard and I have seen her go after it and stopped her but continue to see evidence when I return home each day that she has been eating the poo. Did the pinapple thing work? Any other ideas?

Dog Eating Excrements

Postby Luba Puppy » Sat Mar 25, 2006 12:25 am

The animal eats its own or other animal's feces. The first measure will be to see if the animal suffers from digestive problems. In some cases, this conduct arises with the consequence of an important scolding when the puppy has pooped inside the house. The puppy acquires the custom of making the droppings disappear because it realizes that the owner doesn't like it.

Dog Eats Poo

Postby Beagle_Girls_Mom » Thu May 04, 2006 9:33 am

We solved this problem! Yippie! Believe me when I tell you I tried everything over a 18 month period with our 8 yr old shelter dog. Deter tablets, MSG in food, picking it up, rewards, Vit K, etc. Then I hired a trainer who loaned me a training collar. I tried it on myself and only 2 zaps on the lowest setting convinced Annie Pooch that eating poo was not good. You have to zap the dog right when the mouth is open and picking up the poo. I watch from inside the house so she doesn't associate me with the zap. Use the training collar ONLY for this problem. I suggest having the help of a trainer. :D
