Need help getting husband on the same page.

Argh! I'm pulling my hair out in chunks right now. Not really, but I want to. Since the dog has been sick he's been on a bland diet--rice and hamburger. During the whole ordeal he was always hungry because he just wouldn't eat the dang rice so he started raiding the trash can and helping himself to dinner plates if we looked away for five seconds. My husband is alright when it comes to keeping ...

Recall

I bought a couple of dog training books and under the section where they discuss training to recall it says that it is best to wait until your dog is mature enough for training (15-18 months, I think).
If you don't know the age of your dog then how will you know when he/she is mature enough to train recall?
My son and I have tried taking Sam (the dog) to a large field, putting ...

heard of this?

I've been doing some online research for obedience training books and there's one called "Secrets to Dog Training" that i see all the time. Some look more legit than others but I generally see them on ads that look spammy, like Get Dog Training Aids. Normally I wouldn't buy something like that, but it's literally the only ebook I've encountered. It seems like it's widely used- so is it a total scam or do ...

Dog chewing wisteria

We have been living in this house for 6 months now. Our dog has just recently started chewing on the blooming wisteria. We have several other types of blooming bushes in the yard and other small trees. Any idea as to why she would choose only the wisteria to chew?

She will do it anywhere from 5 mins to 1/2 hour after going outside. If we are out with her or not does not stop ...

Puggle won't obey-

I have a 9 month old puggle pup. She is the most stubborn animal I have ever encountered. She will refuse to eat her dog food. She will get up on the table when she thinks she's alone and steal food. She scavanges for scraps left on the floor by my 1 year old daughter. If you make the mistake of leaving food alone for 2 seconds it will be gone if she's not locked ...

Wanting to train two dogs with whistle?

Hi, I have two dogs: A rat terrier and a rottweiler and neither get a lot of exercise/training. I'm hoping to change that! I would love to teach them with a whistle/clicker, and I currently have a nice dog whistle, but I'm not sure where to start?
I was also wondering if there is anything breed specific I could teach them?

Guard dog literature

I am wondering what the consensus is on the books available dealing with guard dog training? I realize that this is an unpopular topic among dog lovers, and with good reason! I have a psychology degree, have studied animal behavior both academically and personally, and have trained dogs extensively. I am not looking for internet advice on how it is done properly; I am aware of the ethical, and moral, risks it involves and would ...
