Her back legs are weak, she's vomiting and has diarrheaI have a 13 yr old Sheltie. She has always been in good health until in recent weeks, I noticed she's not eating much. In the past 3 days she's been throwing up, has diarrhea and weakness in her back legs. She can't squat to go bathroom and I have to carry her up the stairs because her legs won't do it for her. She looks so ragged but her eyes are still 'with it' (is the only way I can describe her eyes). Is it time to put her down or is this something that will pass?
Re: Her back legs are weak, she's vomiting and has diarrheaHello Petri and welcome to SeeFido...........I tried to get an answer off to you yesterday but I have a critically ill cat and was rushing around with him.......my apologies!
Your sheltie may have thrown a blood clot into her spine. As this came on suddenly, that is likely. It could improve... However, the vomiting and diarrhea are a problem. This sounds like time to make a trip to the vet to find out what the problem could be. At her age it may be minor however it is possible you could be looking at a number of very serious situations so it may be near her time to go to the Bridge. Because of that, you do need to consult with your vet and find out what your options are and make an informed decision. Wish it was easy but it never is! Just know that it is never easy but you have friends here, friends not yet met but friends still. We will be happy to help you through what ever you have to face and decide.... Keep in touch and let us now what is going on.....
